Private Asset Management article “Is Alt Beta Ready for Prime Time?” featured NEPC’s Reino Ecklord, Hedge Fund Research Consultant.
Alternative beta strategies could give traditional hedge funds a run for their money, according to Reino Ecklord, hedge fund research consultant at NEPC. Speaking to an audience at NEPC’s Investment Conference in Boston, Ecklord cautioned that while alt beta has certain advantages, there are still trade-offs for investors to consider.
Ecklord began his talk by dividing the history of hedge funds into three ten-year periods.
“The early 1990s were really an introduction phase where hedge funds were newer, there were less of them out there and they had less assets to manage,” he said. “After the Dotcom bubble, you saw a huge proliferation in hedge funds. You saw assets continue to increase and you saw huge growth in the number of funds.”
