NEPC’s Dave Moore recently spoke with Foundation & Endowment Report on a story discussing how hospital systems are increasingly investing in private equity funds focused on the healthcare industry.
Investors are able to seek both returns and a vantage point into new innovations with these strategic investments. Institutions approach healthcare investments in one of three ways: a direct investment through their treasury department, a limited partnership agreement or by establishing a venture capital fund. Often, it’s the innovations division of the hospitals, consisting of specialized staff with advanced degrees, who advise and collaborate on such investments, rather than the finance staff that typically make investment decisions.
